Press release

Ms Jaana Husu-Kallio, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has been elected as chair of the Management Board of the European Food Safety Authority EFSA for the next two years. The decision was unanimous.

– It is a great honour to be elected to chair EFSA’s Management Board, Ms Husu-Kallio said after her election. Husu-Kallio has been a member of the Management Board since 2012 and the Board’s vice-chair since 2014.

The science-based opinions of EFSA serve as the basis for the preparation of EU legislation and rules and for decision-making. They help protect the consumers from food-related risks.

– The role of the Management Board is to make sure that EFSA has a good framework to carry out its important work. The Board supports EFSA in every possible way in its endeavour to anticipate and respond to ever more complex food-related-risks and challenges in the field of food safety, says Husu-Kallio.

The Management Board establishes EFSA’ budget and work programmes, monitors their implementation and decides on the internal rules and regulations. The Board also appoints the Executive Director and members of the Scientific Committee and the Scientific Panels.
