Biological control agents and pollinators

Macro-organisms used for biological control and pollination promote plant production and plant health. The use of biological control agents may also reduce the use of plant protection products in pest control. However, the increased use of these macro-organisms may also increase the risks related to use of the products.

The Finnish Food Authority has controlled the marketing, use and importation of macro-organisms used for biological control and pollination since 2013.

The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency Tukes is responsible for authorising and controlling the microbes used in biological control.
