Nutrition

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and its administrative branch are responsible for ensuring that food is safe and wholesome. Nutrition is an intrinsic part of the wholesomeness and safety of food. At the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, legislative matters concerning nutrition are discussed in connection with different topics in the expert groups within the Ministry.

The National Nutrition Council of Finland is an expert body under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Its task is to monitor and develop the nutrition of the population. The Council gives nutrition recommendations, proposes measures and monitors the implementation of such measures and their impact on public health. Its members include experts representing authorities dealing with nutrition matters, health promotion organisations and research institutions. The current Council began its three-year term of office on 4 October 2017.
