Finland signed commitment to promote sustainable and fair use of water

At the Climate Change Conference today, Finland signed the Glasgow Declaration for Fair Water Footprints. This is the first international commitment concerning responsible use of water. Water is in a key position in climate change adaptation, as well as in the mitigation efforts Finland was asked to sign the declaration as one of the leading countries in water responsibility.

Main objective of Management Plan for Lynx Population is to maintain favourable conservation status for lynx

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has adopted the updated Management Plan for the Lynx Population in Finland and confirmed the hunting quota for lynx for the period 2021–2022. The management plan is a key element of the policy on large carnivores and management of their populations.

Forest ministers from Finland and five other EU countries publish a joint statement on promoting forest cooperation

On 5 October 2021, forest ministers from five highly- forested EU countries – Finland, Sweden, Germany, Slovakia and Austria – met at an informal meeting in Vienna. The initiative to this meeting came from Austria. The Slovenian Presidency was also represented. After the meeting, the ministers published a joint statement on the promotion of forest cooperation, which France also supports.

The UN Food Systems Summit will be held at the level of heads of state or government in connection with the UN General Assembly in September. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Leppä and Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari represented Finland at the ministerial level Pre-Summit in Rome on 26–28 July.

FAO investigates climate change impacts on plant pests

Finland, as the driving force behind the International Year of Plant Health 2020, has also been crucially involved in the production of one of its key legacy accomplishments – the development of a scientific review study “Climate-change impacts on plant pests: a global challenge to prevent and mitigate plant-pest risks in agriculture, forestry and ecosystems”.
