Monitoring group on climate change adaptation

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry appointed a monitoring group to coordinate the implementation of the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan in June 2015. A new monitoring group was appointed on 1.1.2019, but in April 2020 the group was reinforced with new members. A new appointment decision was given on 20.4.2020. The term of the monitoring group lasts until the end of 2022.

The task of the monitoring group is to promote cooperation on adaptation between the government authorities and sectors of business and society, identify needs for research and give proposals to further develop research on adaptation, promote the practical use of research information, and steer projects in support of adaptation. The group is also tasked with promoting communication and awareness concerning adaptation, supporting the implementation of the EU Adaptation Strategy in Finland and preparation of national strategies and opinions when adaptation is being dealt with in the EU, monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the adaptation plan, and promoting impact assessments concerning adaptation. The group also serves as the steering group for projects relating to adaptation.

The monitoring group is broadly-based, with representatives from the relevant ministries and other authorities, regional and local actors and research institutes.
