Organic production

Organic production is a comprehensive system of farm management and food production that combines best practices in terms of the environment and climate. The production of organic products strives for high quality by complying with strict health, environmental and animal welfare requirements. Compliance with these requirements is monitored to ensure the market is fair and consumers can be confident that products advertised as organic are indeed organic. Organic 2.0 - Finland's national programme for organic production 2030

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland published a national programme for organic production in 2021. The programme, Organic 2.0 (Luomu 2.0 in Finnish), is based on the EU Organic action plan, which aims at achieving the European Green Deal target of 25% of agricultural land under organic farming by 2030.

The national Organic 2.0 -programme aims at increasing domestic production of organic food, demand and export of organic products and enhancing competence and knowledge about organic production and products.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry coordinates the execution of the programme. In 2023, an implementation plan was compiled in cooperation with stakeholders in the organic production sector and published to support the execution of the Organic 2.0 -programme. It lays down measures and targets with which the objectives of the programme can be achieved.
