30.1.2026 | The new European forest partnership project prepared under the lead of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry progresses. The final Grant Agreement related to the partnership is to be signed by the end of May 2026. The first call for applications for research funding should open in autumn 2026.

17.12.2025 | The organisation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will be reformed, with the new organisational structure taking effect in the beginning of 2026. 27.6.2025 | European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis will visit southern Finland at the invitation of Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah from 29 to 30 June 2025.

15.7.2024 | The Agriculture and Fisheries Council met in Brussels on 15 July 2024. The main topics discussed were the viability of rural areas and trade-related agricultural issues. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah represented Finland at the meeting.

19.1.2024 | The European Commission published the conclusions of the assessment of the need for protection of the wolf population in December. The Commission proposes that the conservation status should be downgraded. Finland will bring this matter to the Agriculture and Fisheries Council on 23 January.

19.9.2023 | The EU Member States will celebrate the European Organic Day in various ways around the autumn equinox. The staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will enjoy an organic breakfast on 25 September, and will invite the staff of the European Commission Representation in Finland and representatives of the National Nutrition Council, ProLuomu and Finnish Organic Association to join them.

24.11.2022 | The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry participates in a project on preparing for a European forest partnership to promote research cooperation in the forest sector. The four-year project ‘European Forest Research and Innovation Ecosystem’ EUFORE, implemented under the Horizon Europe Programme, will evaluate and outline the research, development and innovation needs in the forest sector and provide a platform for strengthening European cooperation.

27.4.2023 | During the current government term, Finland has made significant contributions to climate change resilient and sustainable solutions in the land use sector by funding more than 100 projects that produce research knowledge to serve as the basis for decision-making. Topics where groundbreaking research is done include soil studies and carbon sequestration, which are highly topical in the EU contexts as well.

22.7.2022 | Finland submitted its finalised CAP plan to the European Commission on 20 July 2022. The CAP Strategic Plan and Finland’s responses to the Commission’s observations on the plan are available on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

21.9.2017 | Today, on 21 September 2017, China, the European Commission and several EU Member States signed a Declaration in Turku to strengthen water cooperation between the EU and China. The aim is to join forces to promote sustainable development and improve water security. China and the EU also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish dialogue on water policy.

18.9.2017 | On 21–22 September 2017, a high-level political conference on water cooperation between China and the EU will be organised in Turku, Finland. On the agenda at the conference are the water-related UN Sustainable Development Goals, water in circular economy, and strengthening the cooperation between European and Chinese water companies.
