International organisations

In the administrative branch of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, key international organisations include the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Their activities cover matters in several sectors in the Ministry’s branch. All departments at the Ministry work with international issues concerning their own sectors. At the level of the whole Ministry, activities are coordinated in the international affairs group. In trade policy, the most important organisation is the World Trade Organization (WTO), which frequently deals with rules concerning agriculture.

Working Party on Commodities of the Council of the European Union (PROBA)

International commodity agreements are typically agreements concluded within the framework of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Their purpose is to develop the trade and sustainable production of commodities produced in developing countries through cooperation between producer and consumer countries.

EU positions in commodity organizations are coordinated within the Working Party on Commodities (PROBA) under the Council of the European Union.
