Finland will join as a founding member to the new European Digital Infrastructure Consortium for the agriculture and food sectors (Agri-Food EDIC) that aims to strengthen the EU-level digital and data infrastructure in these sectors. The consortium offers a platform to the Member States for advancing multinational digital projects, enables joint investments in the digital infrastructure and promotes the competitiveness of these sectors, while also ensuring that data on the EU’s agriculture stays in the hands of the EU countries.
The Finnish Government has made progress on its objective of doubling food exports by 2031. Business Finland’s foreign operations related to export promotion will be integrated into the structures of the Foreign Service, creating new opportunities to boost food exports through enhanced cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
The organisation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will be reformed, with the new organisational structure taking effect in the beginning of 2026. The reform was based on the Ministry’s strategy, where the aim is that Finland will be a leading country in a sustainable bioeconomy by 2035.
The European Partnership ‘Forests and Forestry for a Sustainable Future’ brings together about 100 organisations from 28 countries to develop forest research and strengthen international cooperation. Finland acts as the coordinator of the project, with the work led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
On Monday 26 May, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah and two Members of the European Commission opened the New Wood exhibition in Brussels where Finland showcases bioeconomy solutions based on wood and the country’s strong competence and skills.

The objective of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is to create and maintain the preconditions for sustainable and diversified use of renewable natural resources. The Ministry steers both the use of natural resources and research in the sector.
