Derogations

Derogations based on damages may be granted by the Finnish Wildlife Agency if there are sufficient grounds for the derogation. Derogations concerning wolves are granted in Finland on the basis of damage. In these derogations, hunting must be targeted at the specific specimen causing the damage.

Derogations for population management purposes may be granted by the Finnish Wildlife Agency provided that the favourable conservation status of the species is maintained. In Finland, derogations concerning bear and lynx are mainly granted for population management purposes. In this context, the purpose is to influence the development of the population, and hunting does not have to focus on a specific specimen.
