Contaminants

Contaminants are substances that have not been intentionally added to food. These substances may be present in food as a result of the various stages of its primary and industrial production, processing, preparation, handling, packaging, transportation or storage. They may also end up in foodstuffs due to environmental contamination. Extraneous matter, such as insect fragments and animal hair, are not included in the definition.
