Funding opportunities

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry may support activities of societal importance through government grants and state aid. In addition to the Ministry, funding is also provided by the Finnish Food Authority, the Finnish Forest Centre, the Finnish Wildlife Agency, and the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres).

Funding is awarded upon application and is granted at the discretion of the authority. Various organisations and private individuals may be eligible for funding. Government grants are awarded either as general grants or special grants. A general grant may be awarded to support the recipient’s activities as a whole or a specific part of those activities. Special grants include, for example, investment grants and project grants. When public funding is granted for economic activities, the European Union’s state aid rules must be complied with.
