Maps and basic spatial data

Basic spatial data is a national, openly accessible data resource intended for public and extensive use. Basic spatial data includes basic positioning data, data content of the National Topographic Database, laser scanning and aerial imaging materials, and topographic elevation models. Traditional cartographic materials of different scales, electronic information services and user support services enable the extensive use of high-quality national materials for different needs of society.

The systems, data sets and services maintained in connection with the basic spatial data form the national topographic data system (MTJ), which is one of the society’s basic data reserves. The key components of the system include the national coordinate and height systems, the topographic database, general map products, electronic information services and support services for users. The topographic data system is maintained by the National Land Survey of Finland.
