Bioeconomy provides consumers with increasingly safe, environmentally friendly and healthy food. The food industry’s leftover raw materials that are unfit for human consumption are used as raw materials not only in feedstuffs and fertiliser products but also in biofuels and other products. Nutrient recycling creates new business. Synthetic additives are being replaced with natural substances. For example, xylitol chewing gum, yoghurt containing lactic acid bacteria and plant sterol enriched margarine spreads are all part of bioeconomy.
