Pasi Patrikainen appointed as Director General of National Land Survey of Finland

Today, on 22 September 2022, the Government appointed Master of Social Sciences Pasi Patrikainen as the Director General of the National Land Survey of Finland for the term 10 October 2022 to 9 October 2027. A total of 10 candidates applied for the post. The previous holder of the post Arvo Kokkonen will retire on 1 October 2022.

Patrikainen has held various positions in central government. Since 2020 he has worked as Director General and Director of the area of responsibility ‘business and industry, labour force and competence’ at the North Savo Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. Before that, he served as Director General and Director of the same area of responsibility at the Central Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, and as Director of the Employment and Economic Development Office at the North Savo Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. Besides these, he has managerial experience in infrastructure tasks from the North Savo Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.

The Director General of the National Land Survey of Finland is responsible for the efficient performance and impact of the work done at the institute. The National Land Survey of Finland conducts various kinds of cadastral surveys, including parcelling and land consolidation operations, and produces map and other data and promotes their use. The institute secures land ownership and the credit system by maintaining data on properties and owner apartments in its registers and by managing the registration and mortgages of ownership rights. The tasks of the National Land Survey of Finland also include research on spatial data and its application. 

The National Land Survey of Finland has offices in 36 locations, and the total number of employees is about 1,700.

The new Director General Pasi Patrikainen looks forward to getting started in his post. This is how he sees the future of the National Land Survey of Finland:
