Finland and Sweden join forces to promote food exports
Finland and Sweden have taken a unique step to expand export cooperation in the food sector. Collaboration between public authorities and export promotion organisations supports the aim of both countries to significantly increase food exports, open new markets for exports, and improve the competitive position of Finland and Sweden relative to their European neighbours. Jari Leppä, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland, and Sven-Erik Bucht, Minister for Rural Affairs of Sweden, published the plan on export cooperation in the food sector at Hanaholmen, Esbo on 18 April 2018.
Closer Finnish-Russian fisheries cooperation in transboundary waters
On 24 April 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland and the Federal Agency for Fisheries of the Russian Federation signed a new Memorandum of Understanding on the development and monitoring of fisheries and related research cooperation in Finnish-Russian transboundary waters.
Agriculture Ministers to discuss trading practices and food waste
The Agriculture and Fisheries Council will convene in Luxembourg on 16 April 2018. The Finnish representative at the meeting is Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Leppä. The topics on the agenda include food waste and the Commission’s draft directive to fight unfair trading practices in the food supply chain.
