Minister Essayah to attend Agriculture Ministers’ Conference in Berlin
On 20 January, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah will attend the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture of political decision-makers, organised by Germany in Berlin.
The agenda of the forum includes numerous seminars and discussions on topical issues in agriculture. It will culminate with the Agriculture Ministers’ Conference of more than 70 ministers and representatives of organisations such as FAO OECD, WTO and World Bank. The forum is organised in connection with the International Green Week food fair.
The overarching theme of this year’s forum is the future. The discussions will focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular, actions by which the efforts to eradicate hunger in the world can be promoted. The topics to be discussed include sustainable production and food self-sufficiency, and sustainable supply chains and reducing food loss and waste. Minister Sari Essayah will present Finnish practices and ideas for mitigating food loss and waste. At the Agriculture Ministers’ Conference, a joint statement will be drawn up that summarised the common objectives to achieve global sustainable food security.
In Berlin, Minister Essayah will also meet many of her foreign colleagues and visit the Green Week food fair. The topics to be discussed include both political issues and bilateral food export projects.
