Finland submitted its finalised CAP plan to the European Commission on 20 July 2022. The CAP Strategic Plan and Finland’s responses to the Commission’s observations on the plan are available on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
Government approves Finland’s CAP Strategic Plan - proposal submitted to European Commission

At its session on 16 December, the Government approved the proposal for Finland’s CAP Strategic Plan, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The CAP Strategic Plan under the common agricultural policy of the EU specifies the agricultural support and rural development measures to be implemented in Finland in 2023–2027 and the conditions applicable to the measures included these support schemes. The main tasks of Finland’s CAP Strategic Plan are to ensure active food production, promote climate and environment smart agriculture, and strengthen the viability of a countryside that is capable of renewing itself.

European Commission published new EU Forest Strategy on 16 July 2021, aiming for better coordination on forest-related initiatives as well as increasing the cooperation of Member States on forests. The Strategy highlights climate and biodiversity targets, which are important also for Finland. The strategy has evolved towards more balanced version, leaving however room for improvement in the initiatives to follow.
CEWP Conference promotes preparedness for problems in water security

The High-Level Conference of the China Europe Water Platform (CEWP) for water cooperation between China and the European Union sought solutions to global challenges that threaten water supply and security. The main themes of the panel discussion were the circular economy, sustainable use of natural resources, and structures of the financial basis of the water sector.
Future of the common agricultural policy, EU Bioeconomy Strategy and protein self-sufficiency on the Council agenda

The Agriculture and Fisheries Council will convene in Brussels on 19 February 2018. The main topic is the Commission Communication on the future of the CAP, “the Future of Food and Farming”. The Council will also discuss the updating of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and hear information from the Commission on the progress of the EU Protein Plan. The Finnish representative at the meeting is Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Leppä.
