Press release -

The organisation structure of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was revised as from 1 January 2013. The revised structure confirms the new strategy of the Ministry announced in spring 2012, with the functions of the Ministry and the whole administrative branch focused on two main sectors, food and renewable natural resources. Instead of the earlier five departments and four special units, the Ministry now has three departments: Food Department, Natural Resources Department, and Administration and Planning Department.

The Food Department, composed of the earlier Department of Agriculture and Department of Food and Health, is headed by Director-General Heimo Hanhilahti. The functions of the Department of Forestry and Department of Fisheries and Game and most of the tasks of the Department of General Affairs, such as water management and environmental issues, were merged under the new Natural Resources Department headed by Director-General Juha Ojala. Besides the general administrative affairs, the Administration and Planning Department sees to the steering of the administrative branch and matters relating to information systems, including spatial data. The head of this department is Director-General Pentti Lähteenoja.

The new organisation chart of the Ministry, including the units under each of the departments and their directors, is available at
