Today, on 25 January 2024, the Government has appointed M.Sc. (agriculture and forestry) Pekka Pesonen to the post of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for the period from 1 February 2024 to 31 January 2029. The term of the current Permanent Secretary Jaana Husu-Kallio ends on 31 January 2024.

Minister Sari Essayah visited China to promote the business opportunities of Finnish companies and exports. The agenda included the signing of a protocol on the export conditions for poultry meat, and an agreement was reached on starting cooperation on food safety. Minister Essayah also visited a trade fair where Finnish companies showcased their products for the Chinese market.
Cuisine takes Finland to world stage

The Finnish Chef Association has published Finnish food recipes (‘Suomiruoka-reseptiikka’) to promote Finland’s country branding and food exports. The recipes will serve Finnish embassies and missions around the world and those organising international meetings and events in Finland. When ready, the material will be freely available to everyone. The material was produced under an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Record number of participants attend Pre-Summit ahead of UN Food Systems Summit in September

The UN Food Systems Summit will be held at the level of heads of state or government in connection with the UN General Assembly in September. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Leppä and Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari represented Finland at the ministerial level Pre-Summit in Rome on 26–28 July.
