European Commission published new EU Forest Strategy on 16 July 2021, aiming for better coordination on forest-related initiatives as well as increasing the cooperation of Member States on forests. The Strategy highlights climate and biodiversity targets, which are important also for Finland. The strategy has evolved towards more balanced version, leaving however room for improvement in the initiatives to follow.

The Ministry of Agriculture aims to make responsible bioeconomy and circular economy an integral part of the foundation of Finland’s competitiveness and wellbeing by 2030. The Ministry wants to be a facilitator of renewable and sustainable food and natural resource economies and a producer of reliable information resources.
Government adopts updated National Forest Strategy

In its resolution today, the Government adopted the updated National Forest Strategy approved by the Forest Council in December. The vision and objectives of the Strategy, originally approved in 2015, remained primarily unchanged, but the project portfolio was updated to correspond to changes in the operating environment. The strategy now takes into account measures to safeguard climate sustainability and forest biodiversity more clearly than before.

The website on nutrient recycling under the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is now open. The EU launched the strategy in 2009. Because of the broad range of issues covered, it was considered appropriate to also have dedicated web pages for the strategy on the Ministry’s website.
