River Tenojoki fishing regulations for non-salmon fishing adopted

The amendments to the fishing regulations in the River Tenojoki for summer 2022, agreed with Norway, were confirmed by a Government decree. The amended regulations apply to fishing for species other than salmon. The legislative proposal to ban salmon fishing is being discussed by Parliament. The Government decree entered into force on 6 May 2022.

The government proposal to ban salmon fishing in the River Tenojoki in 2022 was submitted to Parliament at the government plenary session on Thursday 21 April 2022. According to the proposal, this year no salmon fishing would be allowed in the River Tenojoki or its tributaries.

Negotiations between Finland and Norway on fishing regulations concerning the River Tenojoki for the upcoming fishing season are still ongoing. The fishing regulations have had to be reassessed based on comments received in both countries. To move the negotiations forward, a ban on salmon fishing is being proposed as an alternative.

FAO investigates climate change impacts on plant pests

Finland, as the driving force behind the International Year of Plant Health 2020, has also been crucially involved in the production of one of its key legacy accomplishments – the development of a scientific review study “Climate-change impacts on plant pests: a global challenge to prevent and mitigate plant-pest risks in agriculture, forestry and ecosystems”.
