Minister of Agriculture and the Environment Kimmo Tiilikainen, accompanied by a business delegation, will visit Algeria on 20–21 November 2016, on the invitation of Abdeslam Chelgham, the Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing. This is one of Team Finland export promotion visits.

In the business delegation there are representatives of the sawmilling, grain, agricultural machinery and cleantech sectors. Sawn timber is by far Finland's most significant export article on the Algerian market, and now growth is being sought in the other sectors as well.

Besides the Algerian Minister for Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing, Minister Tiilikainen will meet the General Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources and Environment and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. The topics on the agenda include scientific, technical and economic cooperation in agriculture and forestry and in water resources, environmental and building issues.

During the visit a memorandum of understanding on plant health is to be signed to facilitate the export of Finnish grain products to Algeria. Algeria is one of the world's largest grain importers.
