Press release

Today, on 26 April the report on the improvement of the National Land Survey's service point network was handed over to the Minister of Agriculture and the Environment Kimmo Tiilikainen. The report presents four alternatives for the structure of the National Land Survey's service point network as of 1 January 2017. Decisions concerning any developmental measures will be taken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regularly investigates whether any operative changes need to be made in the surveying sector. The Ministry is going to deal with the matter on the basis of the report and consider whether there is a real need for this change or not. There are no plans to decrease the number of staff, the report only concerns the improvement of the National Land Survey's service point network structure. Significant factors that affect the extent of the service point network are digitalisation, the introduction of solutions based on e-services and changing customer needs.

The report describes four alternatives: 1) the current service point network, 2) a production-oriented model, 3) an evolutionary model, and 4) a model based on regional capitals

Retaining the current service points network would mean that the current network would continue at its current extent.

In the production-oriented model the opening hours of each service point would be adjusted to match current and expected numbers of customer visits.

In the evolutionary model customer services would be centralised from smaller service points to service points in regional capitals.

In the model based on regional capitals most National Land Survey service points would be located in regional capitals.
